Position Summary
We are seeking excellent candidates for the role of Associate Librarian or Librarian, (depending on experience).School Librarians at Convent & Stuart Hall foster vibrant, welcoming knowledge centers that are conducive to both consumption and creation by way of deep thought, authentic inquiry, and collaboration across our two campus K-12 school. Librarians guide access to information, teach the critical thinking skills required to locate, evaluate, analyze, synthesize, and ethically apply information, and support reading as a core value, not just for information but also for compassion, discovery, life-long learning, global citizenship, and joy.

The library team works together on instruction, development of the library’s digital and print collections and otherwise connects our libraries to the greater life of the school. Librarians lead and collaborate with K-12 faculty to develop and implement programs that enrich curriculum by way of both resource collection/curation and information literacy instruction.  Our librarians offer instruction in research skills and behaviors in support of classwork and curiosity.

Our library team engages work in the following areas: information literacy within our information philosophy program for students K-12, collection development, Extended Essay research and coordination, fostering a culture of joyful reading, archives, and development of inviting and productive library spaces. Librarians exhibit enthusiasm for working with students in grades K-12 as they develop critical research skills. Candidates have a vision for the future while respecting and understanding the value of the past. Yearly, roles and responsibilities are distributed among the library team depending on the needs of the school.

Duties/Responsibilities include:

Information Philosophy Program

Our librarians strive to move beyond Information Literacy to Information Philosophy, aspiring to the ACRL Framework. As such, librarians:

Collaborate to develop and align an information literacy program spanning grades K-12 grades, focusing on our emerging 6th-8th grade collaboration as a critical bridge to high school research
Collaborate within our department to develop and align learning outcomes (with partnership from departmental faculty, especially academic chairs)
Development and implement of assessment (with full collaboration of departmental faculty)
Conduct, centralize and report assessment results
Offer direct individual and group instruction in skills pertaining to information literacy, including how to access, evaluate, use, share and create information in all formats using a variety of sources
Offer direct instruction in skills pertaining to the research process, including formulating a research question, engaging in topic exploration, developing an argument, and communicating findings
Model and teach the ethical use of information, including knowledge of copyright, fair use, and licensing of intellectual property, and assists users with their understanding and observance of the same
Incorporates the American Association of School Librarians’ Standards for the 21st Century Learner and the Association of College and Research Library information literacy framework in delivering instruction; maps information literacy learning outcomes to Convent & Stuart Hall curricular goals
Promote intellectual freedom and access to information as requisite to responsible citizenship
Collaborate to develop programs that foster a love of reading among school employees, students and parents
Provide faculty/staff development opportunities in the use of information resources in a variety of formats and integration of information literacy skills throughout the curriculum
Organize and lead student book clubs
Collection development

Support alignment of electronic and print collections in the libraries to enhance instruction, curriculum, and to foster a joy of reading focusing on resources for 6th-8th grade students
Guide access to materials and information in physical collections, making resources from our high school collections accessible to upper form and high school students and faculty
Guide access to digital resources, including subscription databases, eBooks, and audiobooks, both on and off campus
Collaborate with the library team to select and evaluate electronic resources
Keep appropriate records and collaborate with the library team on financial processes
Collaborate within the library department to maintain the library collection, including circulation, collection development, classification, inventory, and evaluation
Lead the inventory process, overdue item notices, and library catalog maintenance
Anticipated needs for the 2021-22 school year include leading development of resources and programs for an emerging 6th- 8th grade library and developing a meaningful coordinated access strategy with 6th-8th grade faculty
Online and Physical Spaces

Collaborate on our cross-campus aligned development of displays, events, etc. to support school themes, extend classroom learning, and to promote interest in reading
Develop and maintain social media platforms
Collaborate on an aligned LibGuides development strategy; collaborate with other librarians for an aligned web-page development strategy as needed
Collaborate with faculty and leaders to ensure an inviting, productive library environment on both campuses
Other

Collaboration within our IB programme to support the Extended Essay research process may be part of this position depending on the candidate’s interest and experience
Student intern supervision
Collaboration with our school archivists may be possible depending on the candidate’s interests and experience
Take an active role in school community, including participation in school assemblies, faculty meetings, committees, and student advisory
Update instructional and library-related professional skills through conferences, continuing education opportunities, and scholarship
Maintain active membership in professional associations
Collaborate with other librarians to support programming and curriculum for our vibrant Visiting Author program and annual book fair

Qualifications
To be considered candidates should submit a resume and cover letter displaying their qualifications in the following areas:

Requires – Education: B.A., M.L.I.S. (Master of Library and Information Science).

A minimum of three years experience working as a librarian in a school or university setting is preferred.

Requires advanced research skills using proprietary databases.

Requires excellent writing, communication and grammar skills, and the ability to support students’ writing skills.

Requires demonstrated experience using a wide range of instructional technology tools. Direct experience using iPads, laptops, and Google Apps strongly preferred.

Must be detail-oriented, organized, willing to take initiative, and deeply collaborative.

Must have excellent teamwork skills.

Requires the ability to work well with and relate effectively to a diverse group of high school students and faculty.

Must be a role model in embracing and living out the Schools’ mission, goals and criteria.

Experience with independent schools is preferred.
