Live Oak School, a K-8 independent school in San Francisco with an enrollment of 350 students is looking for a Dean of Student Life to begin July, 2018. The Dean of Student Life is a member of the school’s Leadership Team and reports directly to the Head of School. Job Description
Primary Responsibilities:

Provide leadership for an inclusive school climate where students develop a strong identity and are known well by their teachers and their peers.

Support faculty in the development and implementation of the social emotional curriculum including middle school advisory curriculum.

Counsel students through social and emotional challenges as referred by faculty.

Work with faculty to program new student orientations.

Provide school wide leadership of equity and inclusion initiatives

Serve as the administrative representative to the Board Diversity Committee and the faculty Equity and Social Justice Leadership.

Facilitate and coordinate Parent Enrichment events as it relates to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Coordinate faculty and administrative training related to issues of ESJ

Ensure all constituents understand and implement the school’s values of diversity, equity, and inclusion; providing opportunities for education and assessment.

Counsel students through the high school placement process and represent Live Oak School in relationships with high schools.
-
Serve as a resource to and guide families through the high school placement process.
-
Nurture a strong relationship with San Francisco independent, public, and parochial schools as well as boarding schools and advocate for students in the process.

Teach high school placement course to all eighth grade students.
-
Write summary counselor recommendations and provide oversight for math and humanities recommendations.

Organize program events and activities that build relationships amongst students in the community and between Live Oak and the external community.

Oversee scheduling of events including Camp Live Oak, middle school dances, assemblies, Halloween and Groves.

Provide leadership for the creation of elective programs including student council.

Plan and schedule sexuality education, substance abuse prevention, and outdoor education events.

Serve as liaison between parent volunteers and the school in developing and supporting community service projects.

Develop and nurture potential service relationships within the Potrero Hill community.

Support teachers in identifying, organizing, and implementing service-learning projects in the classroom curriculum.

Supervise the work of the Extended Care Director, the School Counselor, and the Athletic Director.

Collaborate to create personal and programmatic goals.
-
Support both roles in creating strong and supportive student experiences.
-
Provide oversight to the management of the program budgets.
-
