Position Title: Assistant Athletic Director

Reports to: Director of Athletics

 

General summary

In support of the Athletic Office the AAD supports the Director of Athletics to oversee the operation of Drew School’s athletic programs to ensure that the high standards of professionalism, communication and organization are maintained within the department, while ensuring that our student-athletes develop an appreciation for such attributes as sportsmanship, integrity, responsibility, and commitment. This is a hands-on role that includes three-season coaching responsibilities, teaching a Physical Education (PE) course, leading a student advisory, and liaising with the admissions department on athletics-specific and more general admission efforts.

Essential Duties and responsibilities

  • In conjunction with the Director of Athletics and Dean of Students, develops and runs activities designed to foster school spirit among students.
  • Co-leads Athletic Council to develop and promote student-athlete leadership.
  • Assists in the organization and planning of all special events and meetings, including the Seasonal Sports Awards Nights and Admissions Open House events.
  • Coordinates with partner facilities to arrange schedules and to ensure proper maintenance and safety.
  • Coordinates and communicates to parents, students, faculty, coaches, and opponents details about athletic practices, games, and events.
  • Helps to supervise athletic contests, ensuring that all athletic events are conducted with concern for safety and sportsmanship.
  • Schedules team photos and takes pictures at athletic contests.
  • Maintains department social media pages.
  • Manages and distributes uniform and equipment inventory, as well as working with teams and vendors to create team gear.
  • Arranges transportation for all athletic practices and contests.
  • Secures officials, scorekeepers, timers and managers for athletic contests.
  • Oversees concussion protocols for all Drew students.
  • Coaches three seasons of athletics
  • Liaises between the admissions and athletic departments to support athletic program-specific and general Drew admission efforts.
  • Serve on the admissions committee.
  • Lead a student advisory

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred
  • Prior experience in a school environment
  • Previous high school or college coaching experience
  • Deep cultural competency and a commitment to equity, inclusion and diversity
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking
  • Willingness to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Demonstrated passion for the mission of Drew School
