Founded in 1908, Drew School is an independent, urban high school in San Francisco enrolling 280 students in grades 9 through 12. Drew engages each student in a process of intellectual discovery to develop an individual voice, the confidence to express it, and the empathy to understand its impact. Position Overview:
Drew School is seeking a full-time mathematics teacher for the 2022 – 2023 school year. A full-time teacher is expected to teach four sections within the department and actively participate in departmental and curricular planning meetings. We are also seeking someone who can teach all levels of high school mathematics and has the ability to teach students with a variety of learning styles and aptitudes.
Our math program places a strong emphasis on student-centered, hands-on learning, and we value creativity and real-world application of math principles. Our lower level courses are integrated and we offer a variety of upper level electives.
The Drew faculty is collegial and collaborative, and we look to bring in candidates who are interested in working with the math department on developing curriculum and others in cross-disciplinary projects.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach four classes
- Serve as a student advisor
- Lead Experiential Electives
- Lead an approved Drew Education for Active Lifelong Learning (DEALL) week experience
- Lead or actively participate in a student club activity
Ideal Qualifications:
- Commitment to the mission of the school
- Bachelor’s degree in mathematics or a Masters in math education, or relative field with significant coursework in mathematics
- Able to teach all levels of math from 9th grade Math 1 through Calculus and Statistics
- Comfortable with an integrated Math 1, Math 2, Math 3 curriculum
- Experience working with students with learning differences
- Enjoys working with teenagers
- Self-reflective and growth-minded
- Ability to collaborate with adults and students
- Culturally competent and a practitioner of equity and inclusion
- Ability to maintain standards of professionalism
