The Berkeley School, a progressive independent school in the East Bay portion of the San Francisco Bay Area, seeks a full-time faculty member to join our multicultural, learner-centered community as a lead teacher in a fourth/fifth grade mixed aged classroom. Candidates must have a B.A. and two or more years of experience working with elementary aged children.

The lead teacher is responsible for mentoring an assistant teacher. Teachers in both fourth/fifth grade classrooms collaborate extensively as a team to co create curriculum.
Essential qualifications include:
* experience with progressive, inquiry-based pedagogy;
* the ability to adapt teaching to and differentiate for diverse learning profiles;
* demonstrated skills in classroom management that positively engage learners;
* a commitment to equity and cultural responsiveness;
* the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues verbally and in writing;
* strong planning and organization skills, and comfort using technology.
The successful candidate will be professional, collaborative, and enthusiastic about participating in our dynamic community of intellectually curious, lifelong learners, all of whom are dedicated to professional development and a reflective teaching practice.
