Full-time Position: Upper School Computer Science teacher, grades 9-12
Expected Beginning Date: August 1, 2019
Position Description:
At The Athenian School, Computational Thinking is one of our key learning outcomes
for an Athenian student. This instructional role helps to deliver on this promise across
four grade levels by introducing students to computational thinking, providing in-roads
to AP-level Computer Science curriculum, and providing opportunities for advanced
students to thrive through advanced experiential seminars in data structures and
algorithms
This full-time faculty position will teach four classes per term. A full-time faculty
position includes academic and community responsibilities, such as advising.
Core Qualifications:
• A desire to embrace the School’s mission and academic objectives
• Demonstrated commitment to education for democracy, justice, equity,
inclusion, community service, and environmental stewardship
• Four-year degree in mathematics, science, and/or engineering
• Selfless dedication to teaching and learning
• Ability to teach the Introduction to programming class in Python or another
suitable language for beginners
• Proficiency in Java, Python or other programming languages suitable for
beginners, and object-oriented program design
• Knowledge of advanced data structures and the core algorithms in computer
science
Preferred Qualifications:
• A graduate degree in mathematics, science, or engineering, or professional
experience in the computer science field
• 2+ years of classroom teaching experience
• Understanding of independent schools
• Experience working in a boarding school with an international student
population
