Position: Full Time Upper School Instructor (Physics/Chemistry)

Position Description:
At The Athenian School, we begin the science arc in our Upper School with Physics. All students are required to take Introductory physics in 9th grade, Introductory Chemistry in 10th grade, and Introductory Biology in 11th grade. Advanced courses in each of the core disciplines are offered to upperclass students, along with Medicinal Chemistry, Environmental Science, Geology, Anatomy and Physiology, Engineering, Art and Science of the Making, and Applied Science. The Science Department is seeking qualified people to teach three classes in physics to 9th graders and one in chemistry to 10th grade as well as participate in the two 9th/10th grade core and grade-level teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teaching 3 sections of Physics to 9th graders and 1 section of Chemistry to 10th graders

Core Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Demonstrated excellence at a high school level in at least one core science course described above
- Demonstrated ability to integrate technology in content delivery and skill development
- Experience with project-based learning
- Demonstrated commitment to The Athenian School’s ideals: Education for democracy, equity and inclusion, community service, multiculturalism, and environmental stewardship
- Growth mindset, flexibility, comfort with a quick pace of change, and openness to collaboration and experimentation
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced university degree
- Experience working in a boarding school with an international student population
- Understanding of independent schools
