Head-Royce School is seeking a culturally responsive, flexible, and enthusiastic educator to join our Lower School World Languages team to teach introductory French in grades K-5. The French teacher will introduce K-5 students to the French Language and cultures of the French speaking world, by establishing an appropriate and engaging learning environment and offering varied learning activities. The Head-Royce School envisions a future where education unlocks the promise and purpose of every student to better the world. Our faculty create classrooms that encourage students to participate in experiential learning, take risks, view the world through multiple lenses, utilize innovative tools, and demonstrate proficiencies through a range of assessments that include real world problems and performances. Beyond the classroom, teachers are expected to take on Lower-School-wide duties and participate in the life of the community.
Skills
Demonstrated knowledge and practice in culturally responsive teaching and learning
Collaborative, collegial, flexible teacher; able to work both with core classroom teachers and the World Language department to adhere to similar curricular scope and sequence through the grades
Clear communicator with students, colleagues and parents/guardians
Demonstrates expertise in teaching French to children in grades K-5, using a variety of teaching approaches in order to reach different student populations and adapt to better serve their learning styles and needs
Demonstrates success partnering with parents to support the educational needs of their students
Strong writing, organizational, planning, and leadership skills
Possesses a growth mindset, a love of learning, and patience
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in French Language and/or Literature or equivalent area of study.
Fluent or Native French speaker
Familiarity with best practices for pedagogical approaches for teaching another language
3-5 years experience teaching primary and elementary level students;
Additional Qualifications we hope to find, but not required:
Advanced degrees/certification are desirable in French (Language, Literature, Culture) and, or, Education
Experience with innovative approaches to teaching language, such as with Comprehensible Input or Integrated Performance Assessments.
Familiarity with ACTFL Proficiency standards.
Other Requirements
Must show proof of negative TB test within the last four years in addition to participation in background screening.
$75,500 – $127,500 a year
*Dependent on Years of Experience Teaching and Education Level
