Responsibilities
Head-Royce School is seeking a culturally responsive, flexible, and enthusiastic Spanish teacher to join our 6-12 World Language department. The teacher will be responsible for teaching selected Spanish courses in the Upper (and occasionally Middle) School. We hope to find teachers who can teach beginning to advanced Spanish classes for a range of students. Our K-12 Spanish program includes a focus on developing oral proficiency, reading and writing skills, and an exploration of culture and history from throughout the Spanish-speaking world. We want teachers who are excited to join our community of learners and collaborate with us on meeting our Strategic Plan Goals and living our mission.
Head-Royce teachers also serve as advisors and club sponsors and participate in the life of the community. We seek applicants who have a strong academic background, experience in anti-racist pedagogy, an awareness of ecological literacy, an understanding of adolescents, and a genuine love for working with students at this specific age level.
Skills
Demonstrated understanding of curriculum design, varied pedagogical approaches, and developmental appropriateness of instruction, as well as different styles and types of assessment
Strong collaborator, with a willingness to reach outside to partner with colleagues to design curriculum, projects, activities, and experiences
Use of technology, when appropriate, to enhance the learning experience
Continuing reflection on and enhancement of one’s own pedagogical approach or a blend of strategies
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish Language and/or Literature or equivalent area of study
Fluent or Native Spanish speaker
Familiarity with 21st-century teaching principles
Minimum 3 years teaching experience at the upper-school level
Experience incorporating DEI principles into a language curriculum
Ability to provide proof of Covid Vaccination and TB clearance
Additional Qualifications we hope to find, but not required:
Advanced degrees/certification are desirable in Spanish (Language, Literature, Culture) and, or, Education
Experience with innovative approaches to teaching language, such as with Comprehensible Input or Integrated Performance Assessments
