The ChangeMaker Lab at Live Oak School is a dynamic makerspace dedicated to supporting student agency and social justice. Students create projects to share about their identities, demonstrate their understanding of the world, and improve our community.
Live Oak is seeking a candidate to join our dynamic team of educators as a Makerspace Coordinator and Facilitator. They report to the Director of Curriculum Design and Continuity. This is a full-time, fixed-term position (with benefits) from April 2022 to mid-December 2022.
Our ideal candidate:
- Finds joy in collaborating with colleagues to design and facilitate hands-on projects.
- Has experience with (or is willing to learn to use) high- and low-tech tools such as sewing machines, X-acto knives, laser cutters, and drills; bonus if you’ve used these tools in an educational environment with youth!
- Loves organization and can maintain existing systems, whether that’s a schedule with lots of moving parts or a room full of materials.
- Has experience working with learners of different ages and backgrounds.
- Is comfortable saying “I don’t know” followed by “and let’s figure it out together!”
- Believes that learners are capable of developing their own understanding of the world around them.
Key responsibilities:
- Collaborate with classroom teachers on activity and lesson planning for ChangeMaker Lab experiences.
- Support and actively facilitate hands-on projects that are open-ended and constructivist
- Teach a once weekly course on Digital Stewardship to 6th grade students, building from an existing curriculum.
- Coordinate ChangeMaker Lab calendar and work with teachers to schedule class sessions
- Sustain an organized space by ordering and restocking consumable supplies and maintaining tools.
- Ensure smooth transitions between classes, which might include light materials prep and organization in collaboration with teachers.
- Capture photo and video documentation of student projects and organize media in Google Drive .
- Support a successful return-to-school experience through deep-dive summer preparation work in collaboration with the Technology Department.
- Support colleagues with coverage for their classes or duties as schedule allows and as assigned by Lower School and Middle School Division Heads.
