Sonoma Country Day School

We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative individual who is committed to adolescent education to join our faculty as a maternity leave substitute Mandarin teacher from August 17, 2018, to an expected end date of November 16, 2018, with the possibility of an extension. This individual will be creating and delivering engaging lessons for students in all grades K-8. This individual will be responsible for working with the Mandarin teacher before the time of the leave in August to learn the curriculum and understand the expectations of material to cover. This individual will be expected to communicate professionally, both verbal and written, with students, parents, and colleagues regarding their students.

Qualifications:  Master’s degree in Mandarin or Education. Experience teaching Mandarin.

Experience must include:

  • Instruction in teaching Mandarin to elementary or middle school age students
  • Creating lessons for all different types of learners. Experience differentiating lessons for learners in the same classroom according to beginner, intermediate, or advanced level upon entry to class.
  • Experience integrating technology into the Mandarin curriculum. Use of an interactive board for students to actively manipulate materials on the board. Using different online resources to help with differentiating the various learning levels of beginners, intermediates, and advanced students throughout the K-8 grade levels.
  • Experience with administrative organization and leadership, such as organizing and leading an event that required working with other individuals as well as requiring both verbal and written communication.
