Overview

The Director of FORTE oversees instructors who teach a variety of classes (instrumental, voice, ensembles including our SFJAZZ program etc.) for MCDS students who want a more personalized approach to music development and performance.  The position also includes team teaching in our SFJAZZ program and assisting in the musical direction of our 6th and 8th grade musicals.

Responsibilities

●        Hire and fire FORTE teachers

●        Schedule all individual and group lessons and classes

●        Supervise and mentor the FORTE teachers

a. Oversee FORTE group classes

b. Maintain regular communication with FORTE teachers through email and phone.

●        Bring new classes and teachers to the FORTE program

●        Arrange for FORTE teachers to connect with the larger MCDS community by accompanying or performing at Upper, Middle and Lower School concerts and assemblies where appropriate.

●        Coordinate with the ASAP Program Director and the MCDS Office Manager about FORTE calendar events, schedule, and room assignments.

●        Oversee budget and determine programming and schedule. Facilitate teacher payment every two weeks and student billing each month.

●        Produce FORTE student recitals, generally three or four

●        Purchase, organize, distribute, and maintain FORTE inventory, which includes instruments (six pianos, two basses, multiple guitars and ukuleles, and three keyboards), materials and electronic equipment.

●        Daily duties include (Monday – Thursday); Morning: checking attendance and notifying PM, Homework Café, Transportation, and teachers of any student changes; Afternoon: unlocking teaching rooms; checking in lower school students to PM; being present to field unexpected changes; be present and check on Late Bus departures at 4:30 and 5 pm.

 

Requirements

●        Bachelor’s Degree

●        Experience in program directing

●        Strong organizational and communication skill
