Seventh and Eighth Grade Science Teacher

SCHOOL DESCRIPTION
Since its founding in 1977, Marin Horizon has been providing a challenging and robust academic program combined with character-enhancing life skills. Marin Horizon is a place of creative, active learning built around our commitment to developing each student’s confident voice. Marin Horizon serves about 300 students from toddler through grade eight and is located in Mill Valley, CA.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Marin Horizon School seeks a seventh and eighth grade science teacher and advisor to begin August 2025. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching middle grades science, and a track record of developing positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues. The position requires excellent collaborative and communication skills, a flexible and positive attitude, and the vision necessary to help create and sustain a dynamic science program.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Curriculum, Materials, and Classroom Management
● Establish an inspiring classroom setting that is organized and engaging, with systems and procedures that manage student behavior, movement, and learning.
● Teach using various methodologies, including lectures, demonstrations, discussions, and laboratory experiences.
● Establish a classroom culture where children have high expectations for themselves and for others, are self-motivated and self-directed, and where children value and love learning.
● Maintain a culture of student safety (physical and social/emotional) in and out of the lab.
● Develop and implement individualized learning plans, small and whole group lesson plans, and classroom activities consistent with Marin Horizon instructional guidelines.
● Collaborate with Marin Horizon team members to improve instructional practices.
● Lead the long-standing Marin Horizon tradition of the rotating major fall Science and Engineering projects (Rube Goldberg machines and Pumpkin Catapults).
● Use standards-based curricula to inform the two-year rotation science program.
● Teach 16-20 periods a week, participate in weekly team and faculty meetings, and fulfill additional supervisory duties as a part of the shared duty schedule.
Parent Education, Meetings, and Conferences
● Provide students and their families with regular feedback and timely information on classroom activities and student progress.
● Assist in the development of, and participate in, school functions, including, but not limited to: open houses and other admissions events, orientation meetings, parent education, and school-wide activities.
● Prepare documents and reports necessary to facilitate parent teacher conferences or other meetings requested by parents or school administration.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
● Anticipated annualized salary range between $75,000 and $115,000

QUALIFICATIONS
● Bachelor’s Degree in related field required; Master’s Degree preferred
● 3+ years teaching experience preferred
● Experience with middle school science curriculum design
● Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds
● Must possess a growth mindset and open to using feedback to refine practice
