Mark Day School seeks a collaborative, innovative educator with a passion for teaching physical education, leading students in daily fitness and physical activities, and coaching. Students participate in a daily running program to build fitness over time thorough consistent application of effort and skill. They learn the value of fitness as part of a healthy, active life and participate in daily activity units across multiple sports designed to teach skills, teamwork, resilience, a sense of fair play, and ethical behavior.

Opportunities and Responsibilities

-Teach daily Physical Education in grades four through eight.
– Teach daily PE to one section each in grades four through eight  (approximately 20-27 students).
– Demonstrate multicultural competency in pedagogy, including innovative teaching methods as well as recognizing and responding to various learning profiles.
– Set high learning and behavioral expectations while maintaining a climate of responsibility, safety, enthusiasm, and fun.
– Form supportive and responsive relationships with students and families.
– Differentiate instruction to challenge every learner.
– Build a strong, positive learning culture in which students advocate for themselves and others.
– Provide constructive, timely feedback that fosters a growth mindset.

– Collect assessment and feedback information longitudinally for PE students and share with PE teaching colleagues during the semester and to contribute to the report card writing process.
– Collaborate closely with the primary supervisor, Mark Day’s Upper School PE Teacher and Athletic Director, on the planning and implementation of the daily PE program.
– Provide after-school athletic coaching throughout the year – a minimum of one sport per season for two days a week over each of our three seasons. Coaching a team has generally been two afternoons per week.
– Supervision duties for recess, lunch, and other times as assigned
– Faculty meetings when not in conflict with after-school coaching for Mark Day teams.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications
– Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution
– PE and coaching experience
– Knowledge with physical education, fitness, and health
– Proven track record of working effectively to advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.
– Strong skills with initiative, follow-through, organization, collaboration, and communication.
