Overview of the Position
Reporting to the Head of Lower School, the school seeks experienced, energetic teachers who bring creativity and innovation to their teaching practice. This person will join a growth-oriented and collaborative learning community committed to the school’s mission and core values. The hiring process will include a screening interview with two administrators, with finalists returning for a second round demonstration lesson and interview with the full search committee.
The Lower School PE Teacher is responsible for:
- Designing curriculum for twice weekly PE sessions for K-4 students that addresses the developmental needs of each age group through a program that highlights fitness, wellness, skill building and sportspersonship via traditional and non-traditional sports and athletic games /activities.
- Actively supervising students while engaged in PE and during lunch duties and recess duties
- Collaborating with the Middle School Physical Education / Athletic Director / Collaborating with the Lower School Specialist Teacher team and Lower School Lead Teachers and Assistant Teachers
- Managing equipment purchases and organization of equipment in the PE shed, for both lower school PE and recess needs
- Communicating proactively with families via posts on our parent platform, ParentSquare, communication as needs arise with individual families and through formal conferences and progress reports twice yearly
The ideal candidate will:
- Have a minimum two years of exemplary Physical Education teaching experience and at least a Bachelor’s Degree in a health related area and a valid California Teaching Credential
- Training in PlayWorks and / or Advanced Coaching preferred
- Be well-versed in progressive educational theory and practices and be culturally competent to build and maintain an inclusive community
- Have a proven track record of working successfully in a diverse environment that upholds high values in social justice education and practices
- Possess a working understanding of developmental/constructivist teaching practices and social-emotional learning
- Have a nurturing and supportive tone & rapport with elementary students that upholds clear expectations and establishing routines and organizational systems to build self sufficiency
Compensation:
Salary and benefits will be based on qualifications and experience, ranging from approximately 66,000 – 85,000. Benefits offered include employer-paid medical with Kaiser and Sutter health, dental insurance, a generous retirement plan and more.
