Jewish Community High School of the Bay
The Jewish Community High School of the Bay needs a professional educator like you to teach one section of AP European History and possibly one section of U.S. History starting in mid-August 2019. We are looking for an experienced History teacher with an undergraduate degree in the Humanities and ideally, experience teaching the AP European History curriculum.
As a pluralistic Jewish high school, JCHS’ students represent the diversity of Jewish practice and identity in the Bay Area. Faculty commitment to the mission of the school is essential, but religious affiliation is not a factor in hiring. We believe our students learn best from a diverse faculty and extended professional community and welcome people of any race, sex, citizenship, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, disability, sexual orientation and marital status to come work with our students.
When you join our innovative humanities department you will:
-
teach one or two classes of students challenging themselves to think like historians
-
have time during the school day to prepare great lessons and give students the individual help they need
-
be supported by an engaged Chair, Learning Specialist, and School Counselor to help you focus on your teaching
-
work alongside colleagues who will both push you to be a better teacher and welcome your help in improving their teaching
-
work with supportive administrators who encourage innovative teaching, expect professional growth, and embrace research based pedagogy
-
support students and the JCHS community by engaging in life outside the classroom through activities such as club advising, student mentoring and attending school events
-
be directly involved in creating a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive environment by differentiating instruction, supporting diverse learners, and implementing a wide-ranging and diverse curriculum
-
give students the knowledge and support to negotiate their own identity in multiple spaces, question unexamined assumptions, and recognize inequitable patterns and practices in society
