San Francisco University High School is seeking an 80-100% time School Counselor/School Based Mental Health Counselor who will partner with the current counselor, faculty, and staff in the emotional support of University High School students.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Offering crisis intervention, counseling, and support services to students and families in a responsive manner and offers groups, as appropriate or needed
  • Maintaining regular office hours that are responsive to student and family need
  • Consulting and networking with outside mental health providers to identify referral options and coordinate student support
  • Providing appropriate referrals for students in need of long-term mental health resources
  • Participating in planning and delivery of mental health and wellness related programming & preventative efforts to students, including collaborating or guest-teaching in the Human
  • Development Department
  • Attending meetings related to student support
  • Collaborating with faculty, staff and administration to coordinate support of individual students
  • Supporting the student group, Mental Health Coalition
  • Maintaining private student records
  • Engaging regularly in process of professional development
  • Collaborating regularly around methods for intervening/provides coaching as needed, in collaboration with the mentor coach
  • Helping faculty and staff to prioritize student need in classroom design & curriculum and assists in developing appropriate responses to distress through consultation and coaching
  • Offering regular professional development to faculty on topics relevant to student development, mental health, and mental health trends
  • Offering regular parent education on topics relevant to student mental health
  • Offering as-needed student group processing spaces

Qualifications and key competencies include:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including a high level of cultural competency and an understanding of equity related issues in schools
  • Possess experience working in a school setting, ideally have worked in a school setting (in some capacity) for 2 years
  • Hold a license (MFT, LCSW, PsyD, PhD, LPCC) or be eligible within the first two years; a PPSC Credential in addition is preferred
  • Feel commitment to equity and working with and supporting a diverse student population
  • Have strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and the ability to collaborate with others effectively while displaying a capacity to take the initiative

Salary & Benefits:

This regular, exempt opportunity is at an annual salary range of $85,000-$105,000 for a 1 FTE role (salary will adjust according to FTE status). Benefits include medical, dental, vision, retirement plan match and voluntary plans such as accident, critical illness, pet insurance and legal shield.
