Website San Francisco Waldorf School
After a year of reflection, conversation, and collaboration among faculty, staff and board, the San Francisco Waldorf School (SFWS) will embark on an exciting new governance structure. SFWS is reorganizing with an all-school Leadership and Stewardship Group (LSG). The LSG will be a future-facing body, facilitating group processes and holding all-school consciousness and accountability for the school’s pedagogical and operational life.
SFWS seeks a new pedagogical leader to be a central member of the LSG. The pedagogical
leader will lead colleagues in implementing collaborative governance which honors our
foundations and cultivates the pedagogical initiatives that will determine the school’s path going forward. This individual will be a skilled communicator and facilitator, able to listen deeply and to lead processes with the faculty, staff, board and parent community. They will have the capacity to recognize and develop leadership in others. In working with various High School and Grade School committees, they will cultivate a responsive and active way of managing day-to-day activities while integrating long-term pedagogical innovation. Working experience with the human-centered approach of Waldorf education as a teacher and as a manager, is essential.
The pedagogical leader is mandated by the faculty, staff, and Board of Trustees with broad
responsibility and authority for the pedagogical aspects of school leadership and management. This person will report directly to the Board of Trustees. The pedagogical leader will have a presence on both the High School and Grade School campuses, which are approximately 30 minutes apart. The pedagogical leader will work in a formative way with the Grade School and High School Chairs and the faculties on each of our
three campuses, including through participating in core committee meetings, full faculty
meetings, and by visiting classes. As a leading member of the LSG, and working with the community, the pedagogical leader will coordinate initiatives to develop a dynamic, cohesive and compelling school. In all community-facing activities, the pedagogical leader will be a spokesperson for the entire school.
