Position Overview:

The K-5 Math Specialist plays a pivotal role in supporting students with diverse learning needs in a progressive educational environment. This role involves close collaboration with classroom teachers, the Director of Curriculum to implement differentiated instruction, conduct assessments, and provide targeted interventions through individual and small group support.

Throughout all responsibilities, the Math Specialist upholds the school’s commitment to student agency, inquiry-based learning, and the social-emotional development of students, ensuring they reach their fullest potential.

Key Responsibilities:Instructional Support:

Provide direct instruction to students in small group, individual settings, and whole group instruction, focusing on targeted skill development.
Design and implement differentiated learning activities aligned with the curriculum and student needs.
Modify assignments and assessments to ensure accessibility for all learners.
Support student inquiry by integrating real-world problem-solving and hands-on learning experiences.
Utilize and adapt a variety of math programs and strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
Teacher Collaboration:

Consult with classroom teachers to discuss student progress, share strategies, and develop effective interventions.
Model effective math instruction and differentiation strategies for teachers in the classroom.
Facilitate professional development opportunities for teachers regarding differentiated instruction and learning differences.
Provide feedback on teaching practices and suggest modifications to curriculum to better support diverse learners.
Assist in developing and implementing math-related accommodations and supports within the classroom.
Assessment & Student Support:

Support teachers to conduct ongoing formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and inform instruction.
Work closely with the Learning Support Team to develop and implement individual learning plans.
Participate in meetings with families to discuss student progress and collaborate on support strategies.
Progressive Educational Practices:

Integrate inquiry-based learning approaches into interventions, fostering curiosity and deep mathematical thinking.
Support student self-regulation and executive functioning skills through individualized strategies.
Promote a positive classroom environment that values student voice, choice, and active participation in their learning journey.
School-Wide Contribution:

Actively participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school-wide initiatives.
Serve as a thought leader in progressive mathematics instruction, ensuring alignment with the school’s mission and philosophy.
Support the integration of mathematical thinking across disciplines, fostering a connected, inquiry-driven approach to learning.
Required Qualifications:

K-6 Teaching Certification.
Proven experience working with K-5 students with diverse learning needs.
Strong understanding of differentiated instruction and progressive educational philosophies.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with teachers, parents, and other professionals.
Creative and flexible approach to problem-solving, with a commitment to fostering a love of mathematics in students.
This is a dynamic role for an educator passionate about making math accessible, engaging, and meaningful for all students.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $50.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 28 per week
Work Location: In person
