Horizons at SFFS provides joyful academic and enrichment learning opportunities that build on the strength and talents of students in
San Francisco public schools. Students join Horizons at SFFS in Kindergarten and participate consistently through 8th grade in a
comprehensive summer program as well as year-round tutoring and enrichment referral opportunities. Beyond 8th grade, Horizons
at SFFS is expanding to provide students recurring high school success workshops as well as mentorship, internship, and
postsecondary planning opportunities.
Working in partnership with Horizons families, referring schools in the Mission District, and the host school San Francisco Friends
School, Horizons at SFFS is committed to developing the whole child and offers activities that promote higher-level thinking and
perspective, develop academic skills, leadership, and self-efficacy – all while supporting student aspirations. Horizons at SFFS is a
nondenominational program. This upcoming summer, Horizons will serve approximately 153 students from Kindergarten through

Job Summary
The Program Coordinator will work with the Executive Director and Academic Program Director to provide critical services to
Horizons students and families. The Program Coordinator will:
● Act as a liaison between the Horizons program and families
● Provide operational support for activities and communications related to Horizons’ academic and enrichment
programming
● Lead the volunteer programming to ensure students and staff are properly supported
● Support the strategic development and execution of new high school student programming
● Support the development and execution of family engagement programming
● Support data collection and evaluation work, research best practices, propose strategies for programmatic
improvement, and implement changes by updating materials and processes
● Perform related work in support of Horizons program as required
A Year In This Role:
School Year Program Responsibilities
● Tutoring
○ Manage recruitment, training, matching, and ongoing support of tutor volunteers
○ Coordinate tutoring sessions and monitor participation
○ With the support of program staff, develop and maintain tutoring recruitment pipelines
● Enrichment Partnerships
○ Act as the liaison between program families and external enrichment partners
○ Host family information sessions to share opportunities and support applications
○ Create and update our database of enrichment opportunities to reflect student interests
● Mentoring
○ Recruit young professionals to serve as mentors for Horizons high school students
○ Act as the primary contact person for mentorship pairs
○ Collaborate with the Academic Program Director to plan Horizons-led mentorship activities such as life
skills workshops and service learning events
● High School Programming
○ Support the design of a new high school program for summer participant alums
○ Act as the liaison with families and students for participation in high school programming
○ In collaboration with program staff and external partners, strategize and operationalize the execution
of high school programming including life skills workshops and college/career exposure activities
● Family Engagement
○ Support the development and execution of parent education workshops
○ Support parent advisory council activities
○ Liaise with families and students about year-round holistic support opportunities
○ Support the design and execution of community events
○ Create a monthly family newsletter to share resources and opportunities
○ Support high school application activities for 8th grade students and families
● Summer Planning
○ During summer planning months, support the coordination of Horizons enrichment programming
○ Lead recruitment, scheduling, and general training of summer high school volunteers
○ Organize and order summer supplies
Summer Program Responsibilities
● Provide ongoing training and support to high school volunteers
● Provide trainings and support as needed for other summer operations support positions
● Oversee the delivery and distribution of daily food service to Horizons students
● Support field trip, enrichment, and swimming operations
● Serve as the after-care programming lead
● Support strategic development of and execute family engagement opportunities over the summer
● Act as a point of contact between the program and families throughout the summer
● Support summer events including the back to program event, grade-level parent meetings, and end of summer
celebration
Qualifications:

● Fluency in English/Spanish required
● Experience working directly with students and families preferred
● B.A. preferred
● 2 or more years of work or volunteer experience with non-profit organizations or schools preferred
● Comfortable presenting to large groups
● Ability to work independently and prioritize projects to meet deadlines
● Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail
● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to relate effectively to a diverse
community and demonstrate an understanding of cultural diversity
● Ability to establish and maintain good relationships and set clear expectations and directions
Compensation:
The salary for the Program Coordinator position is $52,500– $56,500 commensurate with experience. The position is
full-time (non-exempt) year-round. The position operates remotely 1-2 days a week and is otherwise in person at San
Francisco Friends School (250 Valencia St. San Francisco, CA, 94103). Summer program dates require 5 days a week in
person. Work in the evenings and weekends is sometimes required.
