Reports to: Head of Lower School
Pay range: $30.50 per hour, overtime eligible. Hours following the school calendar. This is a full-time, non-exempt position, through the end of the 2023-24 school year.

We seek a Classroom Teaching Aide for the remainder of the 2023-24 school year. The position is a full-time, non-exempt, fully in-person role. Classroom Teaching Aides are important members of the San Francisco Friends School teaching team. In our effort to address learning loss and the social/ emotional needs of our students and community following the pandemic, this position will play an integral role supporting students both in the classroom, at break periods and in the transition to after-school programming, tending to their social and behavioral needs.
Job Responsibilities
Classroom Teaching Aide will be involved in the following duties:
Supervising children, including recess, lunchtime, arrival and dismissal
Maintaining classroom spaces, and preparing materials for lessons
Attending training sessions and calls with outside specialists such as OTs and PTs
Working with individual, small and large groups of children in a variety of subjects
Accompanying students and attending specialist classes, as needed
Assisting students as needed during field trips, service learning and outdoor education
Serving as bridge between the regular school day and the after-school program
Supporting the Director of Extended Day in communicating important information regarding students between the regular day staff and after-school staff
Transitioning students to ED/A3, enrichment classes, clubs, music lessons, and tutoring
Monitoring homework
In partnership with the Director of Extended Day and in collaboration with the after school team, helping with managing student conflicts, health, wellness and safety, and emergencies
Maintaining a safe and positive learning environment, both emotionally and physically
Helping with programming and support for student care during parent/teacher conference days and opening school year meetings
Fostering positive relationships with parents/guardians, students, and school staff on a daily basis that is aligned with our school’s Quaker values, philosophy, and approach
Opportunity for over time by acting as substitute ED/A3 teachers as necessary; on occasion may be asked to work overtime by attending selected evening events
Other duties as assigned by the Academic Leadership Team

Specific qualifications required include:Strong communication skills
Ability to work in Google Docs and to quickly learn a wide variety of education specific technologies
Ability to work across a broad range of teams, ages and personalities
Prior experience working with the relevant age group
Reliable and timely
Spanish language preferred
Candidate working towards an AA or BA in an education related field preferred

Physical requirements:
Regularly required to sit, talk, run, move equipment, hear and visually interact with students. Reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Compensation:
$30.50 per hour, overtime eligible. Hours following the school calendar. SFFS will provide paid sick time, personal days and employer funded health coverage for the employee.
