The school is looking for a music specialist to shape and guide the lower school music program within the context of the larger K-8 music program, as well as within the broader school culture and program. We seek an educator who connects with the Friends school mission, providing an exemplary education in a community dedicated to problem-solving, service to others, simplicity, social justice, and quiet reflection. Our Quaker mission also compels us to create a diverse and inclusive community; we seek a person who will thrive and contribute to such a community, both within and beyond the walls of the school.

 

Job Summary:

San Francisco Friends School has vibrant and creative programs in the visual and performing arts, service learning, technology, social justice, and social emotional learning, as well as the core academic subjects, mindfully choosing projects that meet our goals for student learning. Performances for all students would be expected at least once during the school year. The candidate would work closely with the arts department in integrated and transdisciplinary work in support of art projects and projects in the core classes.

Friends School supports a generous professional development program, encouraging teachers to attend workshops and seminars, visit schools, and engage with contemporary research relevant to our Quaker pedagogy, learning and the classroom, and our overall program.

Job Requirements:

Candidates must demonstrate:

Music instruction background
Bachelor’s degree
Passion for teaching and celebrating Music and Arts Integration
Instrumental, rhythm and movement skillset
Choral and digital music experience
Creation and implementation of a creative curriculum for general music in grades K-4with expertise
Commitment to collaboration and team building

Preferred Qualities:

Experience teaching lower school Music
Education degree (Masters and/or Teaching Credential)
Knowledge of current pedagogy and facility with hands-on and project-based instruction
Openness to Quaker philosophy

Physical requirements:

Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
