POSITION OVERVIEW
The Academy is a small independent school in Berkeley, California, that supports approximately 115 students in grades K-8. The Academy has earned a long-standing reputation for providing a high quality, rigorous, classical education in a small, nurturing community. Throughout The Academy’s history, its educational philosophy has consistently adhered to its founding principles.

We are seeking a candidate who is passionate about the French language and culture, and excited to explore the history of French colonization and French cultures throughout the African Diaspora.

Salary Range 65k – 85k

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The French teacher will be tasked with teaching students how to speak and write in French, developing a range of assessments including written and oral tests, and creating an overall positive learning experience. You should be able to work with K-8 students who have different capabilities and interests.

POSITION SPECIFICS
Assessing the capabilities of the students and developing appropriate lesson plans and curricula.
Pronouncing words and phrases and explaining their meanings to students.
Conducting research to develop appropriate learning materials, language games, and other teaching aids.
Using both in-class activities and online resources and platforms to create a blended learning environment.
Teaching the various tiers of French to students.
Developing and grading informal and formal written and oral assessments.
Scheduling feedback sessions with students and providing extra support or enrichment activities as required.
Making recommendations to students for further learning and development.
Organizing conversational classes and fun events where students can engage with French culture.
Updating records and handling various administrative duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)
We seek a dynamic person who inspires students and faculty and who works collaboratively and creatively with colleagues in various curricular areas and divisions. Candidates should be passionate about teaching and learning, have a love for children and a deep understanding of the developmental ages and stages of elementary students.
