PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Athenian School seeks a certified athletic trainer to help develop and provide preventative athletic medical care for the Athenian community. This candidate will manage injury treatment and rehabilitation, and when necessary, refer to specialists as they return to athletic activities. The athletic trainer will also work closely with the Director of Health Services, coaches, athletes, and families concerning care and return-to-play decisions for student-athletes. This person will provide a presence at competitions and practices, balancing home game and visiting team player needs, risk of injury, level of teams playing, and equalizing time between athletic events. Should an emergency occur at a facility the athletic trainer supervises, they will respond to the injured/ill patron as a first responder. They will work with the Athletic Director at the beginning of each season to meet with coaches to explain Athletic Training procedures, coordinate schedules, communicate the schedule of athletic trainer presence, and answer questions. The athletic trainer will maintain the database of the pre-participation physical records, health records, document student illness and injuries, and provide emergency cards and contact information to the appropriate coaches for their athletes. They will develop and execute a comprehensive injury and illness prevention plan and emergency action plan for each sport, oversee health needs, first aid, emergency medical aid on campus during activities in the afternoon and evening. They will also assist the nurse’s office in regards to injury protocol, medical attention and various aspects of health and fitness. The athletic trainer leads publicizing, budgeting, keeping inventory, and purchasing for the Athletic Training Program and the Athletic Training Room.
In addition to these responsibilities, multiple season coaches have the chance to apply for and serve as part of our residential life team which would include dormitory housing. Athletic trainers may also have the option of teaching PE classes during the day.
CORE QUALIFICATIONS
We seek a certified athletic trainer who demonstrates strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. They will model flexibility and initiative and take a mission-aligned approach to supporting student growth and strong initiative. They will possess the ability to collaborate effectively with students and colleagues, a clear love of athletics, and an understanding of and appreciation for working with adolescents. We seek candidates with a bachelor’s degree or higher in sports medicine or related field. Candidates should have a current Athletic Trainer Certification (ATC) and Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) healthcare provider version.

Athenian provides excellent benefits and salaries are competitive and commensurate with work experience and education. The salary range for this role is $70,000 – $90,000. Community members enjoy meals on campus and use of athletics facilities, including a pool, gym and fitness center.

These include, but are not limited to, funded participation in professional conferences and continuing education opportunities. Athenian provides needed training for CPR/AED certification.
