PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Athenian School seeks a theater director and teacher to teach one year long theater class, provide support for a theater tech class and serve as the artistic director for two productions each year as part of our Upper School arts program. In addition, they will supervise ad hoc performances generated by drama classes and will collaborate with the instrumental music teacher, choral teacher, and dance teacher for the spring musical. Presence in this role is required after school and during weekend hours to run rehearsals and prepare for performances.
We seek candidates with demonstrated experience working in a high school setting and who show the desire to, and the capabilities for, collaboratively generating curricula and classroom practices that help students develop musical and artistic habits of mind and learn the specific skills necessary to express and apply them. Such candidates will also be drawn to, and meaningfully contribute to finding ways to express in our classrooms, Athenian’s pillars: Internationalism, Democracy, Environmentalism, Adventure, Leadership, Service. In addition to instruction, teachers at Athenian participate in community life through a variety of programs, events, and opportunities such as leading a weekly advisory group.

They will possess the ability to collaborate effectively with students and colleagues, strong organizational skills, and an understanding of and appreciation for working with adolescents. We seek candidates with a BA or higher in theater or a related field and experience teaching theater and directing high school theatrical productions.

Athenian provides excellent benefits and salaries are competitive and commensurate with work experience and education. Our faculty salary range is $79,700-144,200 in addition to stipends for completed Masters and Doctoral degrees. Community members enjoy meals on campus and use of athletics facilities, including a pool, gym and fitness center.
All employees participate in school wide professional development, and have the opportunity to pursue a range of additional professional growth opportunities. These include, but are not limited to, funded participation in professional conferences and continuing education opportunities. Athenian provides needed training for CPR/AED certification.
All employees are expected to attend all-school functions relevant to their role and to participate in supporting the student experience with other school duties as requested by their direct supervisor.
