Program Manager, Summer Programs and After School Enrichment | People of Color in Independent Schools

Website The Athenian School

The Athenian School
Danville, CA

Position:  Program Manager, Summer Programs and After School Enrichment
Part-time (0.75 FTE)

Program Description:

At Athenian Summer Programs and After School Enrichment, we work hard to facilitate intentional safe spaces for youth to explore and create in joy and community. Our summer and after-school programs are open to all, meaning a student does not need to be an academic day student at Athenian to participate. Our values of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Social Justice are the lens in which we operate process and program, and we work to make programs welcoming and accessible to students of all backgrounds.

Our long-standing summer camps serve over 500 youth each summer, and fill Athenian’s beautiful 75-acre campus with activities like rocket-building, cardboard boat racing, sports games, swim lessons, film-making, art and activism, hiking, and so much more. Our After School Enrichment program serves about 40 students each session, and enrichment offerings range from Theater and Dungeons and Dragons, to Coding and Engineering. We make the Athenian spirit of exploratory learning come alive!

We are also excited to build on our newest program: Athenian Affinity Camps. In summer 2021, we launched our pilot “Athenian Affinity Camp,” where we brought together 15 students who identify as Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) for a 2-week, overnight experience free of charge. These middle-schoolers went white water rafting, learned how to code and spin tables from a DJ, practiced teamwork with ziplining, and learned from BIPOC guest speakers. We’re thrilled to be running this camp again in summer 2022, and also adding a second camp program under this umbrella, geared towards LGBTQIA+ youth.

Job Description + Duties:

The Program Manager position is a unique opportunity to put your creativity and skills towards orchestrating FUN! We’re looking for a dynamic and passionate creative who has experience in ideating innovative programs from scratch and also planning purposely towards their operations. You’re a great fit if you love wild ideas, leading from a DEIS north star, working with young people, and strategizing on how to maximize joy.
