The Berkeley School, a progressive independent school in the East Bay portion of the San Francisco Bay Area, seeks a full-time faculty member to join our multicultural, learner-centered community as a Middle School Spanish teacher and advisor.

Ideal candidates will:
- have experience teaching Middle School Spanish curriculum and strong understanding of learning outcomes;
- have strong writing and verbal skills in both Spanish and English;
demonstrate positive classroom management skills with middle-school-aged students; - have an understanding of diverse assessment practices and how differentiated assessment informs instruction;
demonstrate familiarity with unit design that promotes student investment in their own learning; - have a strong desire to be part of a highly collaborative and collegial divisional team;
- have experience embedding equity, social justice and civic engagement principles into their teaching practice and curriculum.
Preferred candidates will:
- communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues;
- demonstrate a history of creating a rich, developmentally appropriate instructional environment to meet the diverse intellectual, social, emotional and physical needs of middle school students;
- have a commitment to integrate Spanish learning with other grade-level and discipline-area studies;
- show comfort with technology use.

Overview of the School: Founded in 1963 as Berkeley Montessori School, The Berkeley School is an intentionally small, community–oriented school of 230 students from early childhood through middle school. The Berkeley School believes that a focus on civic engagement guides students to achieve their full potential as scholars, as changemakers, and as active citizens of the world.
