Assistant Counselor

Overview:

The Carey School, a Pre-K to 5 independent school in San Mateo, California, is seeking enthusiastic and responsible Assistant Counselors to support our summer program, Camp Carey. Assistant Counselors play a key role in creating a fun, safe, and inclusive camp experience. Working closely with Lead Counselors, Assistant Counselors help facilitate activities, engage with campers, and ensure a positive environment for all.

Responsibilities:

The Assistant Counselor reports to the Auxiliary Programs Director and works under the guidance of the Lead Counselor. Key responsibilities include:

Assisting the Lead Counselor in planning and leading hands-on activities and crafts.
Taking full responsibility for planning and leading outdoor group games in collaboration with other Assistant Counselors.
Actively supervising and engaging with campers to ensure their safety, well-being, and enjoyment.
Fostering an inclusive, team-oriented environment and modeling positive interactions with campers.
Helping maintain a clean, organized, and safe camp environment, including activity areas and equipment.
Supporting behavior management and conflict resolution in collaboration with the Lead Counselor.
Participating fully and enthusiastically in all camp activities and events, setting a positive example for campers.
Communicating effectively with camp leadership, fellow staff, and parents/guardians as needed.
Qualifications:
Previous experience working with children is preferred but not required.
Enthusiastic, energetic, and committed to creating a positive camp experience.
Strong teamwork, communication, and initiative.
Willingness to be actively involved in all aspects of camp life.

Position Type: Seasonal, Full-Time
Pay Rate: $20-25 per hour
