Overview:
The Carey School, a Pre-K to 5 independent school in San Mateo, California, is seeking an experienced CIT Program Leader to lead and mentor 6th to 9th graders in our Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program as part of our summer program, Camp Carey. This role is ideal for those with a background in working with middle schoolers and experience in developing curriculum. The CIT Program Leader will design and implement a dynamic leadership curriculum, fostering personal growth, teamwork, and skill development in CITs. Additionally, the CIT Program Leader will take the lead in overseeing special camp events, with CITs assisting in the setup, execution, and breakdown of events.
Responsibilities:
The CIT Program Leader is accountable to the Auxiliary Programs Director, key responsibilities include:
Design and implement leadership-focused activities, tailored to the unique needs and learning styles of middle-school aged students.
Facilitate group discussions, team-building exercises, and activities that support CITs’ personal and leadership development.
Provide real-world opportunities for CITs to practice skills like conflict resolution, activity planning, and camper communication.
Ensure the smooth operation of special events, delegating tasks to CITs for setup, execution, and breakdown.
Conduct regular check-ins to monitor CIT progress, offering guidance and constructive feedback to support their growth.
Manage CIT behavior, intervening as needed to address conflicts and promote positive interactions.
Qualifications:
Experience working with youth, especially in a camp, school, or recreational setting, required.
Classroom teaching experience, particularly with middle school-aged students, strongly preferred.
Proven ability to design and implement engaging, challenging curriculum.
Strong leadership, mentoring, and communication skills, with a passion for developing young leaders.
Experience planning and executing special events or group activities preferred.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic camp environment with patience and flexibility.

Position Type: Seasonal, Full-Time
Pay Rate: $25-30 per hour
