Located in San Mateo, The Carey School is a preschool-fifth grade independent school with the mission of specializing in elementary education,  The Carey School inspires curious, confident, and joyful learners and celebrates childhood in an inclusive, diverse community that nurtures kindness, respect, and personal responsibility.

The Math Specialist plays a key role in enhancing the math program, pedagogy and overall educational experience, reporting directly to the Director of Studies.  In conjunction with the Curriculum Coordinator, this professional will support and guide teachers in implementing the math curriculum as well as co-teaching both whole group lessons and small group lessons to students in grades PK-5 with homeroom teachers.  Utilizing research-based data, the Math Specialist, in collaboration with homeroom teachers, will help to drive curriculum development and implementation with a focus on equity in math education.  Strong collaboration and communication skills are essential for success in this role.

General responsibilities include but are not limited to:  curriculum development and implementation, collaborating with teachers, instructing students and student support.  The employee may be assigned other duties, in addition to or instead of those described here, and any duties are subject to change at any time according in the needs of the school.

Knowledge, skills, abilities to include:

  • Math education degree or extensive background in math coupled with extensive teachings experience
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate complex information in a concise manner
  • Implementing a new math curriculum for the 25/26 school year
  • Strong collaboration skills
  • Knowledge of elementary-age developmental levels
