Latin Full-Time Temporary Teaching Position

August to December 2023

The College Preparatory School, an independent high school in Oakland, California, seeks a temporary Latin teacher for the Fall semester. Candidates should have experience teaching Latin to students at the secondary or college level. They should have a strong interest in working in a multicultural community and be eager to embrace spirited intellectual challenges in a rewarding academic environment. Qualifications and desired characteristics:

Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Classics, Latin, or a relevant field
Experience teaching Latin in an academic setting
Strong organizational and communication skills
Patience, flexibility, and a good sense of humor
Applicants must be interested in teaching all four levels (I through IV) of the Latin curriculum. The goals of the Latin program are to provide a strong foundation in the language, introduce students to the diverse cultures of the ancient Mediterranean world, and foster a lifelong enthusiasm for Classics. Our World Language teachers work closely with one another, honing and reshaping curriculum, assessments, and assignments based on current pedagogical research and best practices.

Faculty at College Prep are compensated according to a step scale based on years of experience that ranges from $72,500 for teachers with no prior relevant experience to $143,700 for teachers with 44 years of prior experience. Temporary positions are compensated on this scale, prorated to the length of employment.
