Preschool Teaching Assistant
Reports to: Laura Bridges-Pereira, Director of Special Programs and Preschool
Job Status: Full time, starts August 7, 2024 (Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm)
Compensation: $27 – 47/hr commensurate with education and experience
Qualifications and Experience. We seek a team member who is/has:
an inspiring, student-centered educator with a minimum of 12 ECE credits (an associate’s degree with three years of successful work as a Teaching Assistant is preferred)
experienced with knowledge of developmental stages and needs of children ages 3 – 6
excellent communicator with cultural competence
flexible teammate who is willing to collaborate
partner who is able to react quickly to the needs of children; lift and assist students (up to 40 lbs); lift and move classroom equipment (up to 20 lbs); can perform essential functions in the classroom
Montessori training and Spanish language are a plus but not required
The Work. The preschool teaching assistant will:
assure students are joyfully, safely engaged in classroom activities and outdoor play
support head teacher with overall operations of the classroom
collaborate with the teaching team to work with individual children, small groups
provide age-appropriate academic and social emotional instruction and support to students
organize and set up equipment and materials for nap, games, art, crafts, science, and outdoor activities
manage children and systems during nap, play class, lunch, and singing time
communicate observations and insights to head teacher, including assessing and monitoring skill development
guide student behavior patiently and supportively
maintain an encouraging and positive attitude with students and colleagues
