STEAM Teacher (4th-6th)
Reports To: Raquel Vizcaíno, Head of Middle School

Job Status: 100% FTE

FLSA Classification: Exempt

Compensation: $65,000 – $140,000 based on years of experience and degrees earned

Start Date: August 6, 2025

 

OVERVIEW

The successful 4th-6th grades STEAM teacher collaborates with team members to assure coherence, relevance, and vibrancy of programs; partners regularly with colleagues and parenting adults; continues to develop professional knowledge and skills, particularly as related to academic and cultural competencies; and supports environmental stewardship throughout the school. This 4th-6th STEAM teacher is a key team player in the collaborations that occur across the STEAM disciplines.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Implement project-based learning opportunities that foster student confidence and excitement for science
Align with Next Generation Science (NGSS), Common Core, and International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) standards and practices
Differentiate curriculum to meet student learning needs
Develop students’ skills and work habits
Integrate Digital Citizenship and Social-Emotional Learning best practices
Keep up with pedagogical and curricular best practices and explore emerging topics
Integrate technology as a tool for learning
Collaborate on the PS-8 STEAM curriculum to ensure program continuity and teach STEAM classes as determined
Assess student progress with written assessments provided to students and families at determined intervals
Give timely feedback to students on their progress on assignments and assessments
Communicate with colleagues and administrators as needed
Communicate and partner regularly with parenting adults through meetings, conferences, reports, and ad hoc communications
Supervise recess and lunch duties as assigned
Attend staff meetings and any other meetings/events with the occasional evening and weekend commitments
Advise a cohort of Middle School and teach elective classes as determined by the Head of MS
Participate on overnight trips and chaperone student events as assigned
Participate as a staff member on the Public Purpose Committee’s Environmental Sustainability sub-committee
Meet the requirements of classroom planning and grading, adjusting for the peaks and valleys of the needs throughout the variable cadence of school life
Support the care of the Adventure Playground
Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Bachelor’s degree in a field of science, Master’s preferred
Minimum of three years of relevant teaching experience, preferably in an independent school
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated facilitative and classroom management skills
All prospective employees must be able to clear a background check and TB screening

WORK ENVIRONMENT
May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time
Able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs
Able to stand and walk for extended periods of time
Work in the workshop, science classroom, and Field Station/Adventure Playground with occasional field trips off campus
Work in a shared office
Work in a fast-paced and loud school environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
